With over 20 years’ experience, Adrian has carried out his role as an Alcohol Liaison Nurse from within 3 very different organisations.
Adrian has previously worked at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, home of the PAT (Paddington Alcohol Test) where he helped to develop a role providing both specialist substance misuse nursing input for the hospital and brief advice/brief interventions (IBA) as highlighted by NICE, RCP, RCN and DHSC. Additionally, Adrian worked to develop a service focussing on A&E, Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) and Acute Medical Unit (admissions ward) as well as liver ward at St George’s Hospital, Tooting. The service established links with local alcohol and drugs services in Wandsworth, Merton and Lambeth – especially the Wandsworth Assertive Case Management Team for people with frequent admissions and A&E attendances, who also have an alcohol-related problem.
Since February 2014, Adrian has worked as an Alcohol Nurse Specialist within the psychiatric liaison teams at Central Middlesex and Northwick Park Hospitals. These teams are part of the Psychological Medicine service line within CNWL NHS Trust.
Adrian’s work has been recognised by NICE on two occasions; firstly, where he helped to develop an alcohol care bundle with Acute Trust colleagues, and secondly, by developing a substance use screening form for mental health services.
